What its reviews say

Of the 94 App Store reviews the store made available when we read them in August 2026, about half were negative. The most common themes were full-screen ads and a setup that kept asking to change notification settings.

When Chime: Speaking Clock is the better choice

On an iPad or an older iPhone, Chime: Speaking Clock is the one that works: it runs on iOS 12 and on iPad, while Tinny(not) needs an iPhone with iOS 17.6.

When Tinny(not) is the better choice

Tinny(not) is free and never shows an ad. The free version is already a complete hourly chime: five sounds, the work, waking and all-day presets or any hours you choose, every day of the week, for as long as you like, without paying anything.

If you want to make it entirely your own, a single optional purchase unlocks the full set: a sound for each quarter hour, the speaking clock, your own words read out on schedule, chosen days and your own imported sounds. You pay once, and there's no subscription.

The app also speaks your language, and setup is a switch and a few choices; whenever iOS needs a setting changed, the app opens the exact page for you.
